The clinical care category represents access to quality health care and preventive services. Health care is particularly important for older adults. Some age-related conditions are a normal part of aging, such as diminished immune function or hearing and vision difficulties. However, the risk of certain conditions, including cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis and dementia, increases with age and may require additional health care support to detect and manage.
This category is one of the five categories of measures used in the America's Health Rankings model. The other four categories are behaviors, social and economic factors, physical environment and health outcomes. This model is built upon the World Health Organization’s definition of health: “Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” Our model reflects that determinants of health directly influence health outcomes.
America’s Health Rankings builds on the work of the United Health Foundation to draw attention to public health and better understand the health of various populations. Our platform provides relevant information that policymakers, public health officials, advocates and leaders can use to effect change in their communities.
We have developed detailed analyses on the health of key populations in the country, including women and children, seniors and those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, in addition to a deep dive into health disparities across the country.
